Meditation provides us with a pause, an opening in our lives.
Our July Meditation & Chanting will be in recognition of One Voice Day - a time to speak up in integrity for ourselves and others.
On Saturday, July 22, we’ll open our time together with a short selection of easy seated tension releasing exercises.
We’ll open our meditation time together with a guided visualization through the night sky to discover your own personal guiding stars. We will begin by visiting with your Heart star, to soothe any hurts and then illuminate what makes your heart sing. Next, we’ll connect with your Mind star, to clear out any troublesome thoughts and create a clear, open space for positive, uplifting thoughts. We will complete by communing with your Soul star, which guides your soul to your highest life purpose.
From our visualization, we will flow into a soul nourishing silent meditation.
Meditation will be followed by chanting of mantras, each of which has been selected for the ability to benefit our mental and emotional health, to uplift us and fill us with joy.
Both Meditation and Chanting are by donation. To keep our Zoom room safe, all participants MUST be pre-registered via Eventbrite.
Meditation
Studies show that meditation and chanting have positive effects on your emotions, brain and body – calming emotions, increasing the ability to process information and even softening physical pain. The National Institute of Health (NIH) tells us that meditation may physically change the brain and body, potentially improving many health problems with lasting effects beyond the time you spend in meditation.
Regular meditation practice can create new neural pathways for peaceful thoughts and calmer emotions.
Mantras are the mind vibration in relationship to the Cosmos. The science of mantra is based on the knowledge that sound is a form of energy, having structure, power and a definite predictable effect on the human psyche…Mantra takes the vibratory effect of each of your molecules into the Infinity of the Cosmos. ~Siri Singh Sahib, Yogi Bhajan
Beginners welcome – no experience in meditation or chanting needed

Chanting
Never chanted before? Give it a try! We will be chanting to a cd. The words will be shown via Zoom Screen Share. It’s easy!
Why do we chant?
The gateways to the soul are opened with prayer, voice, sound, and repetition. The repetition of a vocal sound modifies and is remarkably healing to the breath, the body and the mind. Brainwaves begin to balance after only three or four minutes, and the muscle and skin temperature increases. Chanting is a simple way to reduce stress and anxiety.
Sacred chants bring about transformations in your awareness. Chanting opens you to the unfoldment of your potential into the field of possibilities, making it possible for you to fulfill any desire you have. You will have created a new reality.
How do we chant?
We will do both ‘sing along’ and ‘call and response’ chanting.
‘Call and response’ chanting means that first the “caller” sings the verse and then the audience repeats it. It’s easy! If you’re a visual person, we’ll have handouts with the words, definitions and explanations on them.
The above information on chanting is adapted from liner notes to Om Namaha Shivaya, by Robert Gass
